Community InvolvementEllwood is involved in many community activities including block parties, parades, sports teams and group meetings. For more information on block parties, see the Fire Prevention page. Youth sports is a very big part of the Ellwood tradition. Baseball, hockey and soccer teams are currently sponsored by the fire company. Sponsorship includes money towards uniforms and frequently coaches to help. When an Ellwood sponsored team wins their league, the players are recognized for their accomplishment with jackets. The members are also concerned about others in the community. Frequently contributions are made for the benefit of firefighters from other nearby fire companies who have a special need. In addition, Ellwood members also support other youth activities such as special requests from Kenmore East and West where the members feel they can help with special projects. Ellwood, along with sponsorship from the Town of Tonawanda conducts an annual Halloween party. Cider, doughnuts and entertainment are provided to everyone who attends. The best costumed children are given recognition for their efforts. The Ellwood fire hall is used for civic groups each week. A group of Seniors sponsored by the Town of Tonawanda meets at Ellwood each Tuesday. Also the Ellwood Homemakers meet each Thursday for craft preparation. The fire hall is also used for 3 voting districts on primary day and election day.
