The members of Ellwood are a very dedicated group of firefighters. Members live in the Ellwood Fire District boundaries. They are your friends and neighbors who are concerned about the well-being of the community. Each member is required to attend and participate in regular drills to maintain their proficiency in firefighting. Drills are conducted each Wednesday evening and Saturday morning. In 2002 Ellwood firefighters completed 1623 training hours and in 2003 they attended 2424 hours at Ellwood. In addition, members attend numerous additional training classes to learn new methods of firefighting. Members are also required to maintain their physical fitness and receive regular physicals to insure that they are fit. An application for membership can be made to Ellwood by contacting the Chief and requesting an application. Ellwood currently has a full roster but applications are being accepted and will be acted upon as openings occur. Fire Police All members have been trained on fighting fires and responding to other emergencies however a small group has volunteered to receive extra training and take an additional role at an incident. The Ellwood Fire Police team protect the community and the firefighters by guiding traffic and pedestrians away from harm during an incident. The members of this team are Bob Blount, Gary Magaris, Ray Howard and Paul Prautzsch. Please abide by their requests because they are trying to keep you out of harms way.
